With very clear sky conditions and the time available to me I went down
to my dark-sky site S of town for an hour of observing just at the end of
twilight, with the rise of the moon coinciding with the start of my 1 hr.
session.

DATE - 2004 Aug 1/2 0940-1040 pm CST
                   Aug 2 0240-0340 UT
OBSERVER - Bert G. Matous

         +38.5 N 94 37' W
28.5 miles S of Overland Park KS
WEATHER - No wind, upper 70's.

OBSERVING SEGMENT -

0940-1040 pm Local time CDT (0240-0340)
zs. - In 15 min. increments, (5 readings per hr.)
5.5/5.7/5.5/5.2/5.1 Rising just past full moon in low ESE
FOV due W at 70 degrees
METEORS - 5 tot. 1 PER, 1 NDA, 3 Sporadics

Comments - 3 of the 5 were quality meteors. 3 minutes into session had
a +0.5 blue slow 5 degree long sporadic near Vega, followed ten minutes later
by
a fantastic Northern Delta Aquarid 3.0 second earthgrazer of 0 magnitude.
Reddish with a nebulous head and a trace train, traversing over 45 degrees
from N Oph clear thru Bootes. After the magnitude +3 Spor and the
+3 PER near the Big Dipper handle there was a long dry spell of 28 minutes,
with the last meteor being another +0 magnitude Sporadic, reddish orange
falling to the SW. I was out last night Aug 3/4 as well about the same time
period and with the improved zenithal star the typical meteors were quite a
bit fainter. I will post that report later in the day.
