Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - July 2004

Those who spent their summer vacation in the first half of July were lucky
when they went to a southern location. The weather in central Europe was all
but not like Summer, which is represented by the low number of observations.
It was rainy and cold, and we would have missed more than a single observing
night if the observers were not distributed over such a large area.
The picture changed radically in the middle of the month: The days turned
sunny and hot with 30 deg Centigrade in the shadow and numerous clear nights
which reminded somehow to the exceptional Summer of 2003. Only a few heat
thunderstorms and the resulting clouds blocked the view to the sky sometimes.
In the end we collected 400 hours of effective observing time and, thanks to
the increasing meteor activity, for the first time in this year more than a
thousands meteors.
As for the observers: Detlef Koschny resumed meteor observation after a
longer breaks to due professional commitments, whereas the data of Stane
Slavec and Stefan Ueberschaer are still missing. Anyway, everybody could "warm
up" for August, the high season for meteor observers thanks to the Perseids.
