On August 26, 2004, at about 9:40 PM, from a point near Greensboro, GA (33.5060 deg. N, 83.2060 deg. W), a meteor-like object was seen. It was WSW at an altitude of about 45 degrees; its vector was downward, moving from left to right. This object was brighter than the brightest Iridium flares (greater than magnitude -8), nearly as bright as the football-shaped moon in the south, and at roughly the same altitude. This thing had a duration of nearly 10 second--and was so spectacular that I gave it time to make impact, fully expecting a ground-rattling THUD! that never came. Did anyone out there have a similar experience?
