   It burst apart, blue pieces, then orange

  Not long, half a second, similar to fireworks

  I was going out to the barn and noticed a bright
light on the northeast horizon, moving quickly due west.  I thought at first 
is was an airplane.
It fell apart due north from me, and resembled fireworks. You could the 
small pieces turn colors.
