Subject: Big bolide of Dec. 14th

Hi Robert:
I observed a huge bolide which lit theTexas sky at
11:33 PM CST on Tuesday, Dec. 14th. This object
appeared low in my northeast sky. I was located about
20 miles southeast of Van Horn, Texas. I only saw the result
of the explosion of this meteor which consisted of a train
of yellow "particles" travelling parallel to the horizon, passing
through the star Mizar. A great distance is implied, and I
suspect people in the Lubbock to Amarillo area should search for
meteorites.
Truckers told me it was intensely bright, the brightest meteor
they had ever seen. After the burst, yellow teardrop shaped meteors-
fireballs in their own right- were left. These meteors moved very slow,
and took a few seconds to extinguish.
The object created a loud static burst on AM radio- a curious
sizzling sound. I was listening to WOAI out of San Antonio, and the
static burst roughly sounded like a nearby lightening flash.
How can I find more info on this object? Clear skies existed all
across
the lower midwest including Texas. The flash should have been seen
over a huge area. Even where I was the sky was lit brighter than
a ligtening flash. There should be some clearinghouse on
fireballs we can access, I hope.
Thanks,
Kevin McKeown
The "UFO Reportng Center" run by Peter Davenport- bogus though
many of the reports are- did have a fireball section that gave good first
hand reports. Peter seems to have discontinued this for the reason
I believe that big meteors were not UFO's.
Anyway, I believe the December 14th event was a major event.
