Hello, friends:
The appearance of zig-zagging may very well be due to
autokinetic motion of the eye muscles. It sure happens with
stars, planets moving satellites and even planes, why not with
meteors? I suspect that the meteors have to be somewhat
slow to notice this effect.
I once saw one which I swear had a curved path. While I wasn't
looking directly toward it and moved my eye to it, I never saw
this with any other meteor, and most are not in the center of
vision.
