(meteorobs) Perseids in Romania - an invitation

As it is widely known by now, there is a chance for a substantial
outburst of the Perseids on the evening of August 11 UTC - which would
be viewed best from Eastern Europe. The Romanian meteor society SARM
is holding big Perseids observing camps every year (and has been clouded
out only once in more than a decade); this year the camp is decidedly
international for the first time. A large Dutch group will be there, e.g.
It is still possible to join the fun, and the organizers have asked me
to spread the news.

I will be in the country (which has impressed us a lot in 2000 when SARM
organized the International Meteor Conference there) from August 5 to 14,
travelling around first a bit and then going to the Perseids camp - see
the details at www.geocities.com/valentinsarm/Perseide2004 - for the peak
time. THERE ARE TWO SEATS AVAILABLE in the car for the short touristical
part of the journey! The overall cost of the adventure is really low, I'm
told, with the camp itself at about EUR 15 per day with full board(!) and
the accomodation during the car trip costing about EUR 20 per day; otherwise
we only have to pay for the fuel (and a key SARM member is doing the
driving).

Please mail me directly at dfischer at astro.uni-bonn.de - for details, as
the conference organizers are at the site right now, w/o e-mail access.
It would be nice if more foreigners could join the camp, as the preceding
ones seem to have been hugely successful (judging from SARM presentations
at past ICMs).

Daniel
