Star meteors greetings!
Report Fire ball in Brazil to the light of the day
Me, Rosely Gregio reviews you of the Meteorobs list the following reporte
about observation of fire ball in the south of Brazil for my friend Alex
Amorim, amateur astronomer and observer of the sky since many years.
Report
The observer's name: Alexandre Amorim
The observer's e-mail: costeira1 at yahoo.com
Address: R. Antonio D. Souza, 315 - Florianópolis, SC, Brazil
Date: 17/18 May 2004
Universal Time: 11:12:16
Schedule of Standard or Hourly Time of Summer?
(x) Standard Schedule - () Schedule of Summer
Name of the location: Carianos, Florianópolis
Latitude: 27th 39 ' 37 " S
Longitude: 48th 32 ' 37 " W
How much luminous the meteor was?
Scale of magnitude stellar pattern: ~ -15 more luminous than the
full moon;
How long did it last?
Duration: 1 to 2 seconds
What color was?
Color: silver white
In what direction you did see it FIRST?
Initial azimuth in 90 degrees
Azimuth type:
() Magnetic
(x) True
If you are not familiarized with determining azimuths, indicate
one of the following ones:
() Directly on top (zenith)
() North
() Northeast
(x) East
() Southeast
() South
() Southwest
() West
() Northwest
() I am not safe.
Initial altitude in degrees: 30
Final azimuth in degrees: 110
Azimuth type:
() Magnetic
(x) True
If you are not familiarized with determining azimuths, indicate
one of the following ones:
() Directly on top
() North
() Northeast
() East
(x) Southeast
() South
() Southwest
() West
() Northwest
() I am not safe
How much distant on the horizon the meteor was when he was seen
the last time?
Final height in degrees: 15
Did it pass directly on top?
() Yes
(x) Not
The one what speed you saw the meteor?
(In relation to the angular speed there is to use two scales, the
first is
known as subjective scale, and it is indicated as Fast, Moderate,
Slow, etc. THE
another possibility, that is the one that he/she/it should use,
bases on the estimate of the speed
in degrees a second.
Dear angular speed (degrees / seg): 12 to 15
If you are not familiarized in determining the angular speed,
indicate one of the
following:
() Very Fast;
() Fast;
(x) Medium;
() Slow;
() Very Slow;
() I am not safe.
Did the object leave a trace?
(x) Yes
() Not
He/she left a white trace, similar to the contrail of airships to
jet. It was
observed even to made a mistake with the close clouds, once the
sky was
partially cloudy.
How long did it last?
~5 minutes
What color was the trace?
Color: white
How much long the trace was?
Measure in degrees of the size of the trace: 20
Did you see a terminal flash with this fireball?
(x) Yes
() Not
Possibly it would finish in flash because the observation was
accomplished in full light of the day
and a slight crack end was noticed.
Did you hear any simultaneous sound associated with this fireball?
() Yes
(x) Not
It was not possible to detect any sound by virtue of the noise of
automobiles in the
proximities (it was hourly of I moderated in the main avenue of
the airport of
Florianópolis).
Other comments: The sky was partially cloudy, even so exactly in
the direction
East - Southeast there were parts of visible blue sky. The meteor
crossed this area and yours
trace was visible up to 5 minutes after the passage. After these 5
minutes it was
difficult to observe the trace because he made a mistaked with the
close clouds.
As the dear magnitude, was sensibly more brilliant than the Full
Moon
possessing a brilliant central area.
Analyzing the simulation of the sky with SkyMap For 9, the meteor
possibly has radiant
among the constellations Pisces, Eridanus, Cetus or even Aries.
Alex Amorim
The Colonel-aviator Ricardo Cézar Mannrich, that participated for the
morning
of the training with supersonic airplanes AMX in Santa Catarina,
it informed that there was not any release that could be confused
with the reports described above.
Very thankful for the attention and good skies for everybody!
Celestial hugs
