(meteorobs) Color of photo meteor trails

I've heard that color photographs of meteors are unreliable in  catching the 
actual colors of meteors on film. The streaks of meteors are  over exposures 
that appear white. The beginnings and ends of meteors may show  some color, but 
these may be under exposures that doesn't show a meteors true  colors. I 
believe it has something to do with not enuf light to expose all the  layers of 
the color emulsions to give a true color?
