No enhanced 2004 Draconid activity so far
-----------------------------------------

A few verbal reports about observations on October 5/6,
2004 do not indicate enhanced activity from the Draconid
meteor shower this year. Dust trail computations by
Isao Sato, Japan, showed a number of close encounters
for Oct 5, 2004 between 22h and 23h UT.

Unfortunately, I mixed the names of Isao Sato and Mikiya
Sato in my posting on October 5. The computations by Isao
are entirely different from the ones by Mikiya Sato. Com-
putations by Mikiya showed Jovian perturbations in the
20th century making dense dust trails unlikely.

The reports from 7 observers had typically 1 Draconid per
session, maximum 2 Draconids. The data allow us to say
that no enhanced activity of ZHR > 10 occurred, but are
inconclusive with respect to the actual ZHR level exhib-
ited by the shower on Oct 5/6.

Best wishes,
Rainer Arlt
