Some radical changes in the weather outlook for tomorrow night's lunar
eclipse. Although a large ridge of high pressure is still expected to be
centered just east of James Bay in Canada on Wednesday night, the disturbance
that until now has been progged to be over Midwest and lower Lakes region, now
appears to be a bit more vigorous than earlier expected. It is now projected to
be somewhere over the Virginias, with showers now possible over parts of West
Virginia, western and central portions of Virginia and the Carolinas.
Considerable mid-level cloudiness could stretch as far east as the Delmarva
Peninsula and the middle-Atlantic coastal plain.
What this means so far as the weather in the Northeast US is
concerned, is that at eclipse time a swath of high-to-mid level cloudiness may very
well cover much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the southern half of New York State
and southern New England.
Meanwhile, dry and mainly clear weather appears to be a good bet to
the north of a Rochester, NY-Albany, NY-Boston, MA line. If the high pressure
cell in Canada is stronger than forecast, this clear-line might end up a bit
more to the south.
Conversely . . . if the disturbance over the Virginias turns out to be
more aggressive, clouds could spread even farther to the north . . . perhaps
up through central and northern New England.
The good news is reserved for folks over the nation's midsection and
lower Great Lakes: what looked like a grim and overcast night for Wednesday now
appears to be trending toward a clearing pattern. In fact, they might even
glimpse the eclipsed Moon in St. Louis area during Game 4 of the World Series
on Wednesday night.
