Have any of you, who are interested in this event, tried to locate John
Freely
at Bosphorus University? John is probably still teaching there (he's getting
up in years but is quite active). He's in the Physics Department but also is
an avid Astronomer, or was..he does teach astronomy as well as physics. John
Freely, if you check the Internet, is also the author of over 30 books about
this part of the cosmos.

I no longer live in Istanbul and John and I have lost contact. But you may
mention my name if you find him.  I illustrated one of John's books
(Istanbul - The Imperial City, Viking 1995) when we were both teaching at
that school.

If anyone can help you find information on this even in Constantinople, it
will be John Freely!!
