Hi,

In the link below there is some quite good info on that Vesuvius 472 AD eruption, if there can be any good info on that, as it seems to be the least known "big" eruption from Vesuvius in last 2000 years. This 472 AD eruption was probably one of the strongest eruption in Europe in last 2000 years, although in global scale not really important at all. VEI (volcanic explosivity index ) reading has been estimated as 4 for the 472 AD "pollena" eruption. 79 AD was much larger VEI 5. Index goes from 0 to 8, 8 being beyond the imagination.  St Helens in 1980 was VEI 5.
