For our third night out Pete Gural and I observed again from the Japatul
helipad. Despite the lower rates this was my most enjoyable night as I was
well rested and the mosquitoes were not such a pest. The trend of bright
Perseids continued peaking with one -5 toward the end of the session. The
most unusual meteor of the night was a bright Perseid through Ursa Minor
that appeared to me to be "banded". What I mean by banded is that several
vertical stripes appeared along the length of the meteor. I thought for a
moment this may be an example of a "corkscrewing" meteor but I believe that
banded is a more accurate term of what I saw. This meteor did appear in one
of the video cameras but unfortunately the resolution was not enough to show
anything but a normal Perseid.
