Hi Mike:
    Don't know why NASA is so excited, amateurs have recorded such images
and there is a Yahoo Group devoted to Lunar Impacts.  I guess some have been
CCD cosmic ray hits so they must be confirmed by another telescope.  I
suggested using a grating or objective prism as if there was a spectrum that
would rule out a cosmic ray ccd hit.  Only snag is you would probably need a
large telescope to get enough light to produce a spectrum.
