I observed thursday night/friday morning, when exceptionally clear skies
arrived for a rare, one-night-stand.
I had unheard-of summertime LM's above +6.5! Of course, the humidity and
haze returned with a vengeance by friday afternoon. So I took the
opportunity to observe a couple hours before moonrise.
The first period, from 11PM to midnight, local time, was very slow, and
this trend continued through the first half of the second period. Finally
at 12:32 AM things picked up and for the last quarter of the session I saw
60% of all meteors observed. The highlight of the night occured during this
time, when at 4:48 UT I had two nearly simultaneous (< 2 seconds apart) but
unrelated SPOs appear in Ophiuchus. The second of the two was a beauty --
a -1 with a wide wake, but a rather short path length. No trains or CAPs
were observed.
