I made the fifty mile trek to Mt. Laguna this morning to view the Delta
Aquarids and any other showers that happened to show up. The moon was low in
the east as I left San Diego, but the hill to the east of the observing site
still blocked it until thirty minutes into the session. Despite it being
clear all the way to the coast, the sky was still impressive. There were no
clouds left over from the afternoon thunderstorms but the humidity was
higher than normal. Activity was hot and cold over the four hour session.
There were several long gaps of inactivity as well as one minute that
produced three meteors. The Alpha Capricornids and the Southern Delta
Aquarids were the most active radiants, each producing seven meteors. The
highlight of the session was an impressive white Southern Delta Aquarid,
which shot straight upwards into southern Pegasus and left a one second
train.
