Spectacular meteor showers over NZ
6/06/2005 21:28:02

Meteor showers are providing a glorious sight up and down the country
tonight, and police have had calls from people mistakenly believing they
were seeing emergency flares.

Spokesman for the Palmerston North Astronomical Society Noel Munford
says events like this are typical at this time of year.

He says they are caused by comets which have passed by, leaving debris
in their wake.

Noel Munford says it is nothing to be concerned about, and people should
get out and enjoy the spectacular sights.
