News to me David!! I am a member of an amateur Aust/NZ forum and those
guys are out observing a lot - no one mentioned a shower of bright
meteors? I think they have must of misquoted him for a sensational
angle on a single bright fireball - maybe it broke up as well? Although
I keep hearing about bright fireballs a lot these recent weeks.
One of my friends that I have observed with for a lot of years from
dark sky sites, and is meteor shower veteran now I think, saw one
recently from the suburbs/hills that blew his socks of and his
description was amazing - we compared it ones we have seen together,
and it was the at least the second brightest/impressive he couId ever
remember seeing - was very cloudy and they werent thin clouds - pretty
dense low clouds - at the time - he said he could see the big fireball
in full details very clearly - as if there wasnt any clouds in the way!
and it lit up the ground intensly as well. will get full details of my
friend soon.
Cheers
