The American Meteor Society has received reports of a bright fireball of
estimated magnitude -15, occurring near 1:45 Universal Time on June 18.
Reports were received from areas ranging from northern Mississippi,
Arkansas, north to Missouri. From the descriptions received, the object must
have passed somewhere close to the Arkansas/Missouri border, traveling in a
general east to west direction. It is possible that this object was a member
of the anthelion meteor shower, currently located in northern Sagittarius.
This weak shower is known to produce occasional brilliant fireballs, most
notably during the period February through April.
