(meteorobs) Leonids 1974 and not only

Hello,

I'm very interested in references to Leonid activity in 1974 and 1977.
It can help to make judgements about what can be expected in 2008 and
2009. I've described computations for 1974 and 1977 in previous
message. Here they are again:

15 1466 0.00079 7.9 -0.068 234.810 17.11.1974 4:56 ~140
No moon, convenient for Europe. No peak?
12 1567 -0.00105 13.7 -0.066 235.592 17.11.1977 18:01 ~100
No moon, convenient for Asia.

And in old meteorobs messages I've just found that on 24 Nov
2002 Norman McLeod III posted some interesting information concerning
1974. He wrote, that 1974 was surprisingly rich in bright meteors
and his counts went up to 40. It corresponds very good with low ej.
velocity in my computations. Also Norman describes very nice long
Leonid graser, it means that Leonids radiant was not high when he was
doing observations. In 1974 computed peak time was about 5 UT, the
best suitable for Athlantic ocean. At this time it was about midnight
in western USA, or an hour before midnight. So in western USA
Leonid radiant had already risen but was low about horizon. So Norman
could see declining part of this peak. His hourly rates about 40 also
indicate, that ZHR could still be of several dozens, maybe closer to
100.

Norman, maybe you could add something to my suggestions? Your data, not
only on 1974, could be very valuable. Any other comments, perhaps from
other veteran observers on these problem are also very welcome.

Best regards, Mikhail Maslov
