There's an Associated Press news report, with a few accounts, at USA

The second reads as follows:

Apparent meteor lights up Trinity County sky
By Record Searchlight
March 12, 2005

Scores of residents across the north state saw a green fireball streak
across the sky and explode in a flash shortly before 7:50 p.m. Saturday,
and the State Office of Emergency Services has confirmed a possible
meteor impact or midair explosion.

There were reports that the meteor, estimated to be about a foot in
diameter, came down somewhere in Trinity County, possibly near Hayfork,
30 miles southwest of Weaverville. But the Associated Press reported
that the fireball likely disintegrated over the Pacific Ocean.

William Oliver of the Trinity County Sheriff's Department said deputies
went out to the Hayfork area but found no evidence that the meteor had
ignited a fire on the ground.
