Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - September 2005

Looking at the plain figures, September 2005 has been the second best month
in the history of the camera network even though I did not receive all
observations yet. Beside the previous month, only in August and September 2003
we managed to obtain more than 1000 observing hours. Consequently, the number
of meteor records was spectacular as well: We never obtained more than 5000 in
a September before, and in this respect in was the fourth best month of the
network. We owe these spectacular numbers a distinct period of high air
pressure in central Europe in the first part of September. Towards the middle
the weather deterriorated somewhat, but in the last part September presented
golden autumn weather with long clear nights again. So, an overall of four
observers managed to get twenty observing nights an more.
Last month we could also welcome a new observer in the camera network.
Enrico Stomeo has been observing meteors with a Mintron camera near Venice
for a longer time. Now he started to analyse his observations automatically
with the MetRec software. This strenghtens the southern part of the IMO
network, and further observers are about to join the network in the near
future.
