The stone at Mecca is indeed thought by most experts to not be truly
meteoritic, and many people have seen/written about it over the years.
There are other small fragments of the same rock in many other religious
buildings in the region, these look visually similar to the one at Mecca
but are also not deemed meteoritic, they may very well just be remnants
of 'sacred stones' rather than anything that fell from the sky, or
possibly breccia/impactite material.

On a similar theme

The Ironic thing is that here in the UK, at Danebury Iron age hill fort
during the 1970's, a weathered H5 stone meteorite was found buried in a
pit during an archaeological dig, the chances of this meteorite being
there by chance are virtually impossible therefore it is highly probable
that the ancients knew this stone was special and may have even buried
it there to either keep it secure or to keep it out of the way for
religious reasons.

I find it deeply disturbing that the Danebury rock and it's context have
never been studied in depth (except a quick look by the BM) and in fact
it transpires that Oxford University, appear to have lost the rock
completely!!, They can't even provide a photo.

All my efforts and those of others over the years to locate this
historically important rock and others have so far proved in vain. it's
Disgraceful.
