I observed for two hours this morning, from 3:00 to 5:00 AM
local time. I decided to "ignore" the several class IV showers
as advised by Bob Lunsford in his weekly meteor outlook, yet
I feel I had a sporadic count, that especially during the second
period, was too high -- it was a busy second hour with 16
sporadics, 3 COMs and 2 ECL. All that "extra" sporadic
activity was undoubtly coming from the weaker showers.
During the first period I aligned three medium-speed meteors with
the AHY's, noted in the meteor data below, which hardly
explains the high rates during the second hour, although a
statistical anomoly would.
Regardless, SPO rates were double what would have been
expected under darker skies than mine (LM=6.13) and I
was quite pleased to have had several minutes that had multiple
meteors. The highlight of the night was a Delta Cancrid
showing hardly any wake that moved through Leo, quite
distinctly yellow and rather wide. Another SPO moving parallel with the
horizon was VERY slow, and also had absolutely no wake.
