    Have a look at: http://sunkl.asu.cas.cz/~borovic/leonid.htm  Near IR
spectra exhibit mainly atmospheric lines such as N2 and O.  In the past
extended red films were used but today Image Intensifiers or similar devices
produce interesting results.  Do a search for "IR Meteor Spectra" with
Google and this will turn up more references.
