Just in from a cold beach observation in Southwest Scotland.
The sky was crystal clear when we set out from home then patchy cloud rolled
in at the approaching 4-45 am "peak". Having glimpsed a few faint ones
before then it was looking like the show would be obscured but as 5 am approached
more visible sky came back which enabled us to spot about 5 in as many
minutes so our peak would be then.
In two hours observation we spotted about 30 between the three of us.
Around 20 of these were from the direction of Leo. The best and brightest however
was behind us and so bright it made us all turn round!
Nothing can beat out 1999 experience but this has been our best Leonid night
since then.
Realise this is not as technical a report as most are on here, but just
genuine enthusiastic comment on a really enjoyable session.
Look forward to hearing of other observers experiences....it's now light
outside but warm inside!
Cheers
Cal
