(meteorobs) Leonids November 18/19, 2006 from Slovenia

Hi All,

Last night I observed with Jaka Dobaj from Pohorje Mountain. At 
about 1 AM fog started to form at lower elevations and it reached 
up to about 800 meters when we were driving uphill. We first set up 
at a closer location, with an elevation just below 1000 m. After half 
an hour of observations the fog climbed higher and we soon could 
not see any stars anymore. Exactly after one hour it cleared again 
and we could resume observing. However, after 20 minutes we 
were inside the fog again and so decided to have our try at another 
location about 200 meters higher in elevation. At Trije Kralji we had 
better luck as the fog did not interfere anymore. We observed until 
6 AM local time.
The Leonids were very active with 63 seen in 2.3 hours Teff. The 
Leonid activity seemed to pick up while the sky kept brightening. 
My busiest interval was between 04:24-04:34 UT with 12 LEOs.

Other showers were almost inactive during my observations. Only 
one Taurid was seen. There was also one candidate for AMO but 
was rejected for the length criterion.
The brightest meteor of the night was a -4 Leonid fireball at 
Sextans/Hydra border at 04:20:22 UT that left a train visible for 63 
seconds.
