I tried to be set up and observing one hour before the estimated time of the
predicted enhancement, in order to catch any earthgrazers that might come my
way. Alas, but I was not to see a single earthgrazer this night -- indeed,
I just saw one Leonid the entire time. This was not unexpected as the
radiant was either below the horizon or barely up during my watch. Midnight
is a bit early for Leonids in 2006. My longitude was not especially well
placed for any outburst at 4:45. I'm sure a less-dramatic rise in rates at
this time would have gone unnoticed here.
Still, I had a -4 and a -2 (SPOs) to keep the night from being a complete
fizzle, and overall rates picked up rather nicely during the second hour.
