(meteorobs) Orionid Observations -- East Ga, USA: Oct 20/21 -- 2006

   I certainly didn't expect the shower that was awaiting me Saturday 
morning.  The Orionids were always pretty much the same for me, from year to 
year.  Old reliable.  To my astonishment, there were minutes yesterday 
morning that were truely reminscent of the 2001/2002 Leonids!  There were 
lulls, then nice, strong bursts of activity.  Many bright, trained meteors, 
lots of *persistance* to many of the trains.  The magnitude distribution 
(ORI) for the night tells it all...

...there were LOTS of bright beauties!  What a shower!

One train hung in the sky for well over a minute.  Often I'd see pairs of 
near simultaneous meteors of the same brightness.
The clustering effect seemed quite pronounced throughout the session.  A 
report for Sunday morning (10-22) should follow later today.
