Hello Peter,

The most portable, most cost effective application I can think of for
(field) capture of meteors that is self supporting and can be left
unattended while observing
is HandyAvi & a webcam running in a Laptop computer.

The next least difficult application would be HandyAvi , a low light camera,
battery power supply for it, and a laptop with a composite video graphics
card in it that will work with the HandyAvi software. Some graphics cards
are not compatible and must be experimented with.

The option to use a Video camcorder as a portable capture device would
consume battery power too fast. If AC power is available at the site, any
variation of above is effective with a standard PC computer.

Examples of meteor images taken with specialized all-sky cameras can be
found at:
1) http://www.azcendant.com/Examples.htm
2) http://www.cloudbait.com/projects/allskycamera.html

and my website: http://www.geocities.com/stange34@sbcglobal.net/YCSR

Hope this info is useful as options.

YCSentinel.
