Indeed... Richard thanks for sharing that great story about you and your children. I took less of a chance.. no mountain climbing, but I did take my new bride and two young stepsons (6 and 10) on their first camping trip and meteor observing session... we drove up to Mt Laguna (6000 ft) and camped for 2 days in our new '03 VW Westphalia.
We had such an awesome time... my 2 sons had never camped. Simple things... like the campfire, just mesmerized them.

The boys actually stayed up, they were just TOO excited. They'd never seen a single shooting star in their young lives. We observed Saturday night and Sunday night and easily racked up hundreds of meteors.

Of course.. who do we see both nights on the mountain? None other than Bob Lunsford. Very cool to introduce Bob to my new family. Bob and I have been observing together since I joined MeteorObs back in (oh geez, can it really be some 15 years ago!?)... I have learned soo much from Bob over the years and now it's my honor to impart some of that knowledge to my two boys... That, in and of itself, is much more interesting and valuable to me than any meteor sighting!

Thanks Bob... Thanks MeteorObs... as I embark on this new phase in life:-)
