(meteorobs) meteor activity this morning, jan 29th UT

Hello,
Went out for a dark-sky country morning observation/ill-fated imaging 
of comet McNaught 2006 P1this morning (30th local time, 29th UT). 
During preparation in suburbs for drive, and after arriving at a round 
3:15 am local time (17:15 29th jan UT), and then for about an hour 
only, we noticed an unusual amount of bright meteors, and not as bright 
ones, seemingly coming from a common similar part of the sky, 
seemingly, to the casual eye, emanating from Centaurus, particularly 
Alpha and/or Beta? possibly. A couple of them were the fastest large 
bright meteors we have ever seen, and seemed queer, as our brains and 
eyes past experience found it hard to match their speed to their 
appearance! Highly irregular! We mostly accidentally and casually 
noticed at least 9 or 10 in a hour from this vague area, and sometimes 
when a series or pairs, or bright ones caught our attention we watched 
longer, while setting up a guiding scope and cameras ect. we definitely 
had the strong impression we were witnessing a shower!
Just in case it matters!, but it was a nice consolation to our 
weather-thwarted imaging attempts! btw over head was generally much 
clearer than the horizons, so we must of missed quite a few?
