Thanks to everyone on meteorobs for their suggestions
on stargazing at National Parks out west.

Many suggestions pointed me toward sites in Arizona and
New Mexico. Unfortunately, in August, it is the time of the seasonal
monsoons which means frequent shower and
thunderstorm activity. August is the wrong time of the year to go if
you are looking for clear skies in the Desert Southwest.

Places farther to the north look to be more appealing and I will do more
research. My hope is to have a few nights of a Bortle Class 1 or 2 sky to
enjoy; it has been much too long since I've had a view of such a night
sky . . . but maybe this summer I'll have a few such nights.
