Language can be confusing. I reviewed the canoe/cnews/edmontonsunmedia
article on the "screamer" in Alberta.
The term screamer may be a local term that refers to an object that was
fast, brilliant, or in reference to video - a bright flash. There was
no reference to a screaming noise. Actually no reference to sound in the
above at all.
The fact that one report states a sound (re:IMO) was heard and another
was not, is a situation described by Philson (1867). as a "Zone of
Silence."
During various wars, at the time of Philson wrote, as cannons were
discharged, certain villages around around the battle fields would hear
the guns and others would not. Because of atmospherics, or terrain,
some with in the battle field perimeter, would discover that some
heard the noise and others were in a zone of silence and heard
nothing .
So a new term to describe a firebal? Screamer -- a very bright
unexpected fireball that is unexpectedly brilliant.
