Hi all,

As you may know, Cis Verbeeck is currently travelling the world. (Cis is an
active member of IMO and frequent IMC-participant.)

He took the opportunity to bring a visit to the recent headline-making
impact crater in Carancas (Peru) that seems to have been caused by a
chondrite (!).
He wrote a report of the visit and sent us some pictures, available here:

http://www.urania.be/berichten/toonbericht.php?id=3322   (dutch language,
sorry)

On the pictures you see:
(1) the roof of a nearby building that was damaged by a piece of earth
launched into the air upon impact;
(2) the position of this building relative to the crater;
(3) the crater (eroding away, but there have been plans for a tent);
(4) a piece of earth launched upon impact, probably similar to the one that
damaged the building.

More info and high-resolution pictures are available from Cis, without doubt
:-)

Best wishes,
Geert
