And that image is misleading, since the exposure time is basically 
simulating what you would see visually. In fact, the coma is very much 
wider than it appears in the image. While the image suggests that on 
10/26 the coma was about 30" wide, it was actually over 200" wide. As of 
now it is about half the size of the Moon!

The profiles at the bottom of 
http://www.cloudbait.com/gallery/comet/holmes.html give the true size of 
the coma over the last few days. Hopefully there will be a bit of clear 
weather tonight so I can get another data point. All the smoke blowing 
in from California has been seeding cloud formation the last couple of 
nights.
