I'm very glad I went to see the outburst

This morning, plus the lunar eclipse a few days earlier reminded me how much I
love watching the dawn break. Peace, birds chirping, the slow growth of color
in the scnenery, the magnificent color in the eastern sky... Canada geese
honking as they head south (sigh, summer's over) - I need to do this more often.

With minor exception, I saw the same as Bruce because we only had one piece of
sky to watch, so I won't repeat his numbers.

I do want to comment on the numerous notes saying how ordinary the Perseids
were in comparison. I was on holiday at a rural location some 120km NE of
Toronto, Ontario and I rather enjoyed the show. Between variable star
observing, sharing the telescopic and Perseid views with the family, and
wanting to be alive the next day, I did not stay up overly late, nor did I do
an official count (I know, boo on me). Now I'm wishing I did, since I thought
it was a good Perseid max - not fantastic or out of the ordinary, but very
enjoyable.

For my locations, even accounting for the clouds and Moon at the Aurigids, the
rates might approach the Perseids, but it couldn't be described as a "heavy
shower" in my books.

But was it worth it? Absolutely!

Alister Ling.
