Recently there was a discussion of using a hyphen or a zero to designate no shower members observed during a specific period. For new observers on the list, I also suggest keeping in mind how you indicate a shower was not watched. This situation occurs when an observer breaks their observation into more than one period, and a shower is not monitored during one or more of those sessions.  This was the case with some recent reports I archived where the radiant had not risen high enough. When a shower is not monitored for some reason, it is normally noted by using either a slash “/” or an “X”. 

To be on the safe side, you might consider including a brief explanation of the notations you use in the heading section of your report. That way, there’s no chance for any confusion no matter who is looking at the report.
