Sounds like you have a 4-8mm lens on your video camera Robert.

Those lens focal lengths did a very good job of detecting faint stars & 
meteors even with a reduced FOV for me before I went All-Sky.

Additionally, I had roof mounted the camera on a TV rotator so I could point 
it anywhere I wanted in the Constellations with just a little loss of the 
Horizon and Zenith areas. Are you doing something similar?
