(meteorobs) Possible or not?

Roberto,

This article was published back in 1995. Much has been learned
about Hermes and 1988 XB since then. Hermes was re-discovered
in 2003 and visible and near-IR spectroscopy show it to be an
S-type asteroid. Spectrally it is similar to L/LL ordinary
chondrites. 1988 XB is now known to be a B-type asteroid. There
are no meteorites that match a B-type spectrum but they should
be related to the carbonaceous chondrites.

So not only are Hermes and 1988 XB not related to the HEDs, they
are not mineralogically related to each other. The similarity
between their time of close approach to the Earth's orbit and
the fall times of many HEDs is just a coincidence.

Best regards,
Carl Hergenrother
