Bob Gilette of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society identified the structure as a well-studied volcano remnant. His post:

The circular structure in Pawtuckaway State Park is not an impact crater.
It's a ring dike -- the fossil remains of a collapsed volcanic caldera -- one
of half a dozen in New Hampshire dating to the Cretaceous period. The
classic example is the Ossipee Mountains, a circular range 9 miles in
diameter.

Geologists say these are the remnants of catastrophic collapse on the scale
of Krakatoa that initially left circular, probably water-filled lakes
resembling Crater Lake. Surrounding terrain slowly eroded, leaving a
relatively high circular rim of harder material.

So don't bother pulling your metal detectors out of the closet...

Cheers,

Bob Gillette
