As a rule (if you're producing a video for a wide audience), it's probably a 
good idea to encode using a codec that is included by default in Windows 
Media Player or Quicktime, or to encode as Flash video. Between these, you 
cover almost every standard platform, and don't place the burden on your 
viewers of downloading a different player or special codec. Because many 
will simply take a pass.
