When I grew up in Rhode Island, I always looked forward to this shower.
They were brights ones , not hundreds but decent amounts.

Since 1981, in Kansas, the shower has degrades to the pathetic side.

Last year was better and I was hoping that despite the Moon, we could
see a notable flurry depending on predictions. No such luck here in
Kansas

I thought best not to waste gas and go to the observatory 20 minutes south because it was not going to get any darker with the moon the way it was.
Sitting 2 miles from house to get? a better view (Olathe, KS near Kansas City ), I knew the Moon would wash out the show. I just wanted to see some bright ones . What I got was a
"few"? and very disappointing.

Maybe my eyes are not what they used to be . From 9:30 to 10:30 all I
was was one long Perseid earthgrazer but it was only mag 2 and since it
was white blue it did not show up much.

I went to bed disappointed but hoped the morning "spike" might be better

Not for me and not here.

4 Perseids

P 0 mag W 2 degrees

P 2 mag W 6 degrees

P -2 mag Y 20 degrees

P 0 mag? Y 20 degrees

When I was riding back to my house, I could hear one of the jockey's on? the radio station say he was going to run up and look outside and see if he could see any meteors. That's how the public always expects to see a show like magic as soon as you look up. Even for veteran watches like me , the Perseids have put on another? poor showing (last year was better).
