(meteorobs) Quads from Germany, LANMA

Hi all,

Just came back home from a visit to Gronau (Dutch/German border). Carl Johannink 
and me drove into Germany on the night of 2-3 Jan, because of fog on the 
Dutch-German border, and settled on a 180 meter high hill (the Baumberge near 
Billerbeck) that protuded above the fog and had (mostly - a few short periods 
where wisps of fog came by) a nice clear sky with Lm at about +6.3. Temperature 
was -12 C, brrrr!

We started at 2:30 UTC and were surprised by the splendid show we were treated 
on near dawn (6 UTC), as the predicted maximum was still some hours away. But 
activity was definitely above 100 already. I have one peak 15-minute count of 
40! I haven't seen such nice Quadrantid activity since 1995.

In total, 3h27m observing yielded me 396 meteors, of which 323 were Quadrantids.

It was good to be back in the field again, as I haven't been observing for a 
while. I had less trouble getting into the game again than I expected, apart 
from an initial moment of not-quite remembering where the Lm counting areas were 
located...
