Tuesday morning I observed with a group of colleagues from our popular
observing place.
We started at 2h30m local time and observed until dawn. In 3 hours
Teff I recorded 119 meteors, 79 of them were the Orionids.
The activity of the Orionids was higher than expected, with many
bright meteors. They included a -3 magnitude Orionid at 02h21m UT in
Pisces that left a 6-second train; a -5 magnitude sporadic meteor in
Taurus at 02h31m UT with ~1 minute train (seen during dead time); a -4
magnitude Orionid at 03h35m UT low in the south. But the highlight was
a -7 magnitude Orionid seen in the brightening sky close to
observation end. At 03h51m UT this fireball appeared low in the east,
below Denebola. It left a visual train lasting 30 seconds which could
be followed by cameras for about 10 more minutes before the sky became
too bright.
Clear skies!
