(meteorobs) Fireball Over Eastern USA December 7, 2011

The American Meteor Society has so far received approximately 50 reports of a dazzling fireball over much of the eastern half of the USA, stretching all the way from South Carolina to Wisconsin.  Most of the reports have come from Illinois and Ohio. This event occurred near 11:30pm EST (10:30pm CST) Wednesday evening December 8th. Reports of many different colors have been received, with white, blue, and green being most mentioned.  The average brightness reported by witnesses was in excess of the light produced by a full moon, which by coincidence, was also in the sky at the time of the fireball's appearance.
