A Harvard paper just came out in the Jan 2011 Current Biology journal:

which discusses the change blindness or human vision "silencing" that
occurs when objects move and are dynamically changing their hue,
brightness and/or shape. The phenomena they discuss shows the change can
go un-noticed by the human visual system! An interesting characteristic
that could have implications for visual meteor observations. They have a
