(meteorobs) perseids and the full moon

Growing up during the space race of the 1960's - I was a city boy who was very
interested in astonomy. When my Boy Scout troop went camping in mid-August - I
got my whole troop to sleep under the night sky during the Perseids. What a
magnificant show it was. We were chastised by the adult leaders because of all
of our "oohs' and "awws." It was quite a thrill.
Some forty plus years later, despite many attempts, I have never been able to
witness a meteor shower to rival that one.
My son is now in the same Boy Scout troop that I was in. Summer camp is no
longer in August - it was late June this year. But, I was discussing the
possibility of camping the weekend of August 12 - 14 in order to catch this
year's Perseids and let these city boys see something they never have seen
before. The scouts and the adult leaders want to do it.
When I looked into this further - I was disappointed to see that this year's
Perseids coincide with a full moon.
So, my question is -- should we scrap the campout, or is there a show to be seen
away from the city lights, full moon and all?
Thanks for any insight you may provide.
