Greetings again all,
Well this was indeed a frustrating morning of meteor watching for me
here in north Florida. It was not the Perseids fault, however. They
picked up nicely. It was the weather that went south on me, as is so often
the case. I never was able to get in a full hour's data as large,
slow-moving cloud banks kept moving in and moving out, wiping out the
entire sky for long periods, then leaving. I started then stopped three
separate watches between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
In between the clouds though, the Perseids were looking mighty nice
indeed! I must have had near a dozen PERs in the negative magnitudes,
with a golden yellow -4 fireball being the brightest of them. Bill G. and
Bill C. were correct! Several other PERs were in the -1 to -2 range. The
rates did not seem to be all that high this morning (maybe around 20 to 25
per hour perhaps?), but they sure made up for that in individual meteor
quality. Lots of striking, long-pathed and bright meteors.
I hope the weather smoothes out tonight because it looks to be a good
year indeed for the PERs!! Good luck to all...
